Stratum Plans pre-dated Strata Plans.
A Stratum Subdivision divided a property into subdivided lots with each owner being the registered proprietor of their lot and also holding shares in a service company established under the Corporations Act 2001.
Stratum Subdivisions have a lodged plan number (LP), these numbers were not sequential. On the plan of Stratum Subdivision each lot is defined by bearings and distances and also upper and lower boundaries.
Stratum Subdivisions were quite complex. Each building wall that was designated as a lot boundary was fully surveyed so that defined bearings and distances could be calculated and floor & ceiling levels were determined by a level run taken to two benchmarks with levels being to MMBW datum.
A plan with elevations was also prepared and often Stratum Subdivision plans were prepared with many colours used to define separate entities.
Once a Stratum Subdivision plan was sealed by Council it was submitted to the Titles Office accompanied by an Abstract of Field Records which included a full traverse of the building and often a plan showing the bench marks used.
